What are magic truffles?
Magic truffles, also called psilocybin truffles or sclerotia, contain the psychoactive substances psilocybin and psilocin. These substances cause a psychedelic experience, which is also known as tripping.
Differences between magic truffles and mushrooms
Magic truffles and mushrooms are alike; they can have the same effect on anyone who takes them. This is mainly because they both contain the same psychoactive substances, such as psilocybin.
However, there are a number of differences between magic truffles and magic mushrooms. These differences are mainly in two categories: cultivation and dosage.
Magic mushroom dosage compared to psilocybin truffles
For someone who has never used truffles but has experience with psilocybin mushrooms, dosing can be quite confusing. You need to take much more magic truffles than psilocybin mushrooms. This is because truffles are much less potent and are usually eaten fresh.
For comparison: after a mushroom trip from taking 2-3 grams of dried mushrooms, you would need to take about 15-20 grams of fresh truffles for a comparable adventure. This is why magic truffles usually come in packages of 10, 15, 20, or 22 grams. One package is then exactly enough per person. If you want a less intense trip, you can, of course, take less!
Further on in the article, you'll find all the information you need to determine the correct dosage. And of course, you can also use our handy calculator.
Growing mushrooms compared to growing truffles
In short, magic truffles and magic mushrooms are both different parts of the same organism. This organism consists of 3 parts: mycelium, fruiting body, and sclerotia. The fruiting body is what we know as the mushroom (the magic mushroom), and the sclerotia is the magic truffle.
If the substrate and conditions for a mushroom are perfect, the mycelium will grow upwards and the magic mushroom will emerge from the ground. If the conditions are less than ideal, the organism may decide to conserve energy. In that case, the fungus will wait for better times and the largest part will take place underground. This ultimately forms the sclerotia, or magic truffle!
The sclerotia functions as a sort of storage for water and nutrients. It continues to do this until the conditions are good enough for the mushroom to grow. This is why both psilocybin mushrooms and magic truffles contain the same psychoactive substances.
Different types of magic truffles
When you walk into a smart shop that sells magic truffles, you see that there are many different kinds. All these kinds differ in strength, potency, appearance, and effect.
We have compiled an overview of the most popular and best-selling magic truffles. These truffles are all available from Smartific. We have sorted them here by popularity. For a comparison of strength, please read on.
High Hawaiians
This is the strongest magic truffle on the market, making it very popular among experienced psychonauts. These truffles are the most powerful and can give you an incredibly trippy experience. They are sold in 22-gram boxes. This combination makes High Hawaiians the best choice for anyone seeking a full, super intense psychedelic experience. Are you a beginner? Then we recommend choosing a different variety.
Atlantis
This is one of the most popular types of magic truffles among both beginners and experienced users. This is because the Atlantis hits a sweet spot in terms of intensity. You'll get visuals, fits of laughter, a warm feeling, and lose your sense of time. All of this without completely losing your way. The Atlantis is sold in portions of 10, 15, and 20 grams, allowing everyone to determine their own potency. This truffle is suitable for beginners who want a full experience.
Dragon's Dynamite
The Dragon's Dynamite magic truffles are among the most popular truffles right now. In terms of potency, this variety is in the elite ranks, yet they are slightly less potent than the High Hawaiians. Experienced trippers looking for an intense psychedelic experience often choose the Dragon's Dynamite. We do not recommend them for beginners.
MushRocks
Music lovers enjoy MushRocks magic truffles. They are comparable in strength to the Atlantis variant, yet are experienced as being slightly more “trippy.” Most of this trippiness comes from the way you experience and perceive music. MushRocks are therefore often used at music festivals. We can recommend them for beginners, but only if you are confident and are ready for your first psychedelic experience.
Dutch Dragons
The Dutch Dragons are a limited edition magic truffle strain. These truffles are orange and were specially developed to celebrate King's Day. They only come in 15-gram packages and are therefore perfect to use as a party truffle! If you have some experience with tripping but don't want to get completely lost, then the Dutch Dragons are a good choice for you.
Tampanensis
This is the weakest magic truffle species there is. These Tampanensis Philosopher's Stone truffles will give you a very personal but mild psychedelic experience. This species is perfect for someone looking for a relaxed and spiritual experience. It is certainly suitable for beginners but is usually chosen by users who want to get closer to their soul for a moment.
Mexican
This is the ultimate magic truffle for beginners. Before you embark on your first trip, you might naturally feel a bit nervous. The gentle Mexicana truffles will then calmly put you at ease. You can expect a warm feeling inside, endless fits of laughter, and mild visuals. Are you worried beforehand or afraid you'll find it scary? Then always choose the Mexicana truffles for your initiation. Absolutely the best beginner truffle there is.

How do you use magic truffles?
Okay, so now we know all about the types and differences between all magic truffles. Now it's time to explain how to use them. First of all, it's useful to mention that they are delivered fresh and vacuum-sealed. Therefore, it's best to store them in the refrigerator.
It is useful to not eat for a while before your magic truffle trip. We recommend 2-4 hours, but some psychonauts even choose to fast for 10-24 hours. The reason for this is that glucose (sugar) in your stomach or bloodstream can weaken the effect of truffles. So, not eating means a better effect! On the other hand, it is also useful to know that you can end your trip sooner by eating. Are you done with it? Then eat sugar and calorie-rich food. You can also purchase a trip stopper with your truffle box. You will probably not need that trip stopper, but the idea that you can quickly end a trip can be reassuring for novice users.
Eating magic mushrooms
Open the package, put a few truffles in your mouth, and chew them for as long as possible. Keep repeating this until you have eaten your desired amount. Take your time and don't rush, even if you don't like the taste (which can happen). You will achieve the best results if you chew the truffles as finely as possible. Taking a long time also makes them easier on your stomach and the first effects kick in faster. And even though the taste can be truly unpleasant for some users, it's much better to push through for a bit than to get into a fight with your stomach later. Rinse with water if necessary and try to avoid food or sugary drinks as much as possible.
The effects of magic truffles
The first effects of magic truffles will occur about 30-60 minutes after consumption. However, this depends on various factors such as your metabolism, tolerance, the weather, the dosage, and the potency of the truffles.
The effects and experiences will also differ per person. They often come on gradually and in waves. The entire experience will last between 3 and 6 hours. The most common effects of magic truffles can be compared to the effects of magic mushrooms. Prepare yourself for:
- Stronger emotions (both good and bad)
- Visuals (visual changes, breathing objects, and vibrant colors)
- Changes in perception and senses (smell, taste, color, etc. can all change)
- Intro Perspective Thinking (your mind comes up with answers to the most profound questions)
- Mood swings (from uncontrollable giggles to energy boosts to ultimate chill mode)
- Disoriented (navigating or talking to strangers can be (too) difficult)
- Unity consciousness (you feel part of a whole and connected to everything)
- Other unique, crazy things (every trip and situation is different, you can experience the most bizarre unique things)
You can see that a truffle trip has much to offer, so it's important to do your research! This way you'll know what to expect and won't be met with unwanted surprises. For the best trip tips, check out our ultimate guide!

Choosing the best magic truffle dose
The biggest problem with magic truffles (or actually any psychedelic substance) is that when you take too much, it can become a very unpleasant and sometimes anxious experience. If you take too little, you run the risk of not feeling anything at all, which is a waste of money. Both scenarios can leave a bad aftertaste.
What makes it even more difficult is the number of factors you need to consider when determining your perfect dosage. Your weight, your metabolism, the time since your last trip, or even the weather can have an impact.
Regarding dosing magic truffles, despite all factors, you can adhere to the following guidelines:
- 0.5-2 grams – microdosing, you will hardly notice it
- 7-12 grams – for a mild trip
- 14–17 grams – for a normal, medium trip
- 18-22 grams – for a full-on crazy trip
- 25+ grams – a bang dose where an out-of-body experience may occur
The dosages mentioned above are based on an average user with an average weight. If you think you are lighter, smaller, or conversely, larger and heavier, you can adjust the dose accordingly.
To eliminate as much guesswork as possible, we’ve developed our handy magic mushroom and truffle dosage calculator. With this simple tool, you can calculate the perfect dose in no time based on weight and desired effect. This way, you can be sure you’re using magic truffles responsibly. Of course, after a few trips, you can adjust your dosage to suit your personal preferences.
Magic Truffle Microdosing
The scientific community has long been researching whether psychedelics can support medical treatments. People have also begun experimenting with various products themselves, for example, by microdosing them. With microdosing, a very small amount of psychedelics like magic truffles is taken. When such a small amount (0.5 to 1.5 grams) is taken, it appears to stimulate creativity, reduce stress, and lead to better focus and motivation.
For a good effect, you only need a small amount of psilocybin. That's why magic truffles are much more suitable for microdosing than, for example, magic mushrooms or LSD. The goal is to achieve as many positive effects as possible without tripping or losing productivity. The best microdose packages can, of course, be found in our webshop.
