What are Golden Teacher?
Golden Teacher (also known as Psilocybe Aurumescens) is a classic, robust cubensis variety known for its large, golden to honey-colored caps (often up to 5 cm) and thick, ivory-colored stems. The name refers both to the warm golden hue of the cap and to the profound, enlightening insights that users often experience.
This strain is relatively easy to grow, grows quickly, and produces reliable yields. A 1200 cc kit yields an average of 300–400 grams of fresh mushrooms over 2–3 flushes at a temperature of 20–25 °C. The effects are powerful yet balanced: vivid visuals, euphoria, creativity, and deep introspection. Store the kit in a cool place (2–4 °C) until use for optimal shelf life (up to approximately 6 months).
History of the Golden Teacher
The exact origin of Golden Teacher is somewhat of a mystery. The strain first appeared in the psychedelic community in the late 1980s, presumably in the Florida region or along the U.S. Gulf Coast, and spread rapidly among growers.
The name “Golden Teacher” originated from its distinctive golden caps and the reputation that these magic mushrooms can provide profound life lessons and spiritual insights. Unlike many other strains, there is no exact documentation of its first discovery, but through word of mouth and successful selection, Golden Teacher has become a global classic. The advent of ready-to-grow kits made the strain accessible to home growers and cemented its status as the “teacher” among cubensis varieties.
How do you use Golden Teacher?
Growing is easy and suitable for beginners. Wash your hands thoroughly, clean the outside of the kit, and fill it with lukewarm water (20 °C). Let it soak for up to 5 minutes (never longer than 1 hour). Drain thoroughly, place the kit in the included growing bag, add 200–250 ml of lukewarm water, and seal the bag with the paper clips.
Place the bag in a location with a temperature of 20–25 °C, out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources. Keep the bag closed until the first pinheads appear (usually 10–20 days). After that, ventilate daily and lightly mist. Harvest just before the veil under the cap breaks by gently twisting the mushroom and pulling it out completely. Repeat the process for subsequent flushes.
When consuming: start with a low dose.
- Microdosing: ± 0.25 g dried
- Mild high: 1 g
- Typical dose: 1.5–2 g
- Intense trip: 2–3 g
Use in a safe, quiet setting.
Ingredients of Golden Teacher
The grow kit contains a fully colonized substrate (usually made from rye, vermiculite, and perlite), a grow bag with air filters, and paper clips. The mycelium has been selected for the classic Golden Teacher genetics. No artificial additives. The mushrooms naturally produce psilocybin and psilocin, the compounds responsible for the psychedelic effects.
