What is weed?
In most cases, cannabis is used for its unique THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) effects, while for most medicinal applications, people opt for CBD (Cannabidiol) effects.
What is hash?
Hash (also hashish) is a word that describes a particular cannabis product, a concentrated green-brown (or dark yellow) waxy THC-rich substance derived from cannabis trichomes. It is usually sold in blocks and is a very crumbly substance.
What does sativa mean?
When describing cannabis, the term Sativa is mainly used to describe the effects that smoking certain types of cannabis brings. Sativa is usually associated with mental effects: invigorating, creative, and uplifting.
Although this term originates from a type of cannabis plant, all cannabis plants today are very complex in their structure (hybrids). Moreover, Sativa-like plants will not always deliver all Sativa-like cannabis effects. When talking about cannabis cultivation, the term Sativa usually refers to a certain type of plant with specific physical characteristics. Sativas are generally larger than Indicas, and they also have longer and thinner leaves. In most cases, Sativas take more time to grow, as the flowering phase can last up to 100 days.
What does Indica mean?
When describing cannabis, the term Indica is usually used to describe the effects that smoking certain cannabis strains will cause. Indica is typically associated with a physical high and stoner-like effects: deep relaxation, a “couch-lock,” fogginess, and an overall sense of complete relaxation.
Nowadays, all cannabis plants are much more complex in their biological structure (hybrids). Therefore, not all Indicas produce all Indica-like cannabis effects. When we talk about cannabis cultivation, the term Indica usually refers to a certain type of plant morphology or to certain physical characteristics. Indicas are supposed to be slightly smaller than their Sativa counterparts, and Indicas have smaller, thicker leaves. Most Indicas also have shorter growth cycles.
What does ruderalis mean?
Cannabis Ruderalis is another type of cannabis plant, not well-known to most cannabis users, but it plays a significant role in contemporary cannabis genetics, especially when discussing autoflowering cannabis strains.
Cannabis Ruderalis is a type of cannabis plant with a low THC content (approximately 3%), which makes it less potent, but the way it grows more than makes up for it. Cannabis Ruderalis does not depend on a light cycle to flower (unlike Sativa or Indica), but flowers automatically upon reaching a certain age. This unique characteristic makes this exclusive cannabis plant a perfect tool for one purpose: cultivation. The plant isn’t just valuable for cultivation because it flowers automatically; Cannabis Ruderalis also grows faster, requires less care, and is more resilient to harsh weather conditions.
Although Cannabis Ruderalis is not praised for its THC/CBD levels, it can be combined with a high-quality Sativa/Indica/Hybrid to breed a new type of cannabis strain that is easier to care for, smaller, and faster growing.
What is the difference between Cannabis Sativa and Cannabis Indica?
The main difference between Indica and Sativa is the easily observable characteristics during the cannabis growth cycle. Sativa plants grow larger and have thinner leaves than their Indica sisters. Sativas can also take longer to reach full maturity, as their flowering phase can last ~100 days, while Indicas have a 45-65 day flowering cycle.
Both terms are usually used in very different ways, namely to describe the feeling that a particular cannabis plant can give you. Even though most contemporary cannabis strains are actually hybrids (a mix of both).
In short, Sativa-like effects are primarily noticeable mentally, and Indica-like effects are noticeable physically.
- Creativity – Sativa
- Relaxation - Indica
- Thinking – Sativa
- Chill - Indica
- Energy - Sativa
- Sedation - Indica
- High – Sativa
- Stoned – Indica
For this reason, it is assumed that Sativas provide a better experience during the day because they focus on mental effects and allow you to continue with daily life (when consumed in responsible amounts), while Indicas are considered suitable for the afternoon and nighttime, for example, to relax after work.
With all of this in mind: cannabis works differently for different people. The effects are also dependent on the cannabinoid and terpene compositions of the plant. So there is no better way than to simply try your strain of choice and find out how best to grow it.
WHAT IS THC?
Tetrahydrocannabinol, or simply THC, is one of the most popular cannabinoids present in cannabis. It is clearly the most popular cannabinoid that can be found in cannabis, for a simple reason; this is the psychoactive cannabinoid that actually gets you high after smoking cannabis.
THC is believed to be the primary psychoactive compound found in most cannabis plants.
How does THC work?
In principle, THC binds to your cannabinoid receptors to produce intoxicating effects, meaning you get “high.” Yes, you have an entire endocannabinoid system in your brain and central nervous system... and yes, you produce different kinds of cannabinoids yourself.
What does “high worden” mean?
Being high most often means being intoxicated by cannabis, likely THC. The term “high” can sometimes be used to describe intoxication from other drugs, but most other drugs have unique terms to describe their effects (e.g., psychedelics = trip).
What does it mean to get stoned?
Stoned (to get stoned) is another synonym for getting high. But in most cases, stoned and high can mean slightly different effects of recreational cannabis intoxication. As the word suggests, stoned is mostly used to describe the bodily effects that cannabis can have on users. This means a relaxed body, inability (or unwillingness) to get off the couch (known as couch-lock), and a generally laid-back feeling that cannabis can give you. In this sense, the term “high” would therefore be more focused on the mental effects.
GROW YOUR OWN WEED/CANNABIS
HOW CAN YOU GROW YOUR OWN WEED?
To put it as simply as possible, these are the steps you need to take if you want to grow your own cannabis plants:
- Choose your growing pot and place it outside or inside.
- Choose the right cannabis seeds.
- Germinate the seeds.
- Plant the sprouted seedlings.
- Let your plant go through the growth phase.
- Let the plant bloom (flowering phase).
- Harvest the plant and dry the tops.
Can you grow marijuana indoors?
Yes, but for that you need a grow tent, a grow room, or a similarly designated space to cultivate a good cannabis plant. Not only that, but you also need cannabis grow lights, climate control, humidifiers, exhaust systems, nutrients, containers, and perhaps some other tools to get started.
Can you grow marijuana outdoors?
Yes, you can grow weed outdoors, but depending on the climate, you might need a greenhouse for it (if you live in a northern, cold climate zone).
CAN YOU GROW WEED ON YOUR BALCONY OR TERRACE?
Yes, you can grow cannabis on your patio/balcony, but make sure growing cannabis is legal in the country where you plan to do it (it's easy to spot a cannabis plant on your balcony). The success of this process depends on the type of plant you grow, the placement of the plant, and the general climate you live in.
What kind of soil do you need to grow cannabis?
When choosing a perfect soil to grow cannabis, you need to evaluate multiple soil structure factors, such as:
- Holding water
- Texture
- pH value
- Nutrients
If this is your first time growing cannabis, the easiest way is to simply get a special cannabis soil that has the perfect mix of all these factors and is ready to use.
There are also ways to make your own soil; furthermore, the choice of the perfect cannabis soil depends on the chosen plant, the climate, and the growing conditions, as well as the results you expect.
WHEN CAN YOU GROW CANNABIS?
When growing cannabis indoors, you are in control of the plant's life cycle, so you can grow weed indoors at any time. If you plan to grow outdoors, the light cycle is the main factor. Therefore, it is important to determine the exact needs of the plant (duration of the growth cycle), determine the local climate conditions, and plant your seeds correctly.
It depends on the part of the world you're in, but generally spring is the best time to germinate seeds, and autumn (which could be later than that, depending on the length of the flowering period) is when you should start thinking about harvesting your cannabis plants.
What are the stages or phases of cannabis plant growth?
In the most basic sense, the cannabis plant's growth cycle is divided into 4 main phases of the cannabis plant's life cycle:
- Germination (5-10 days)
- Sowing phase (2-3 weeks)
- Growth period (3-16 weeks)
- Blooming period (8-11 weeks)
This means it can take you 4-8 months to grow your own marijuana plant.
How much does it cost to grow your own cannabis?
The cost of growing cannabis can be as low as just the price of the seeds if you plan to grow them outdoors in a very favorable climate, and it can run into tens of thousands of dollars for a more sophisticated indoor setupthat can yield an amazing harvest.
What are the best cannabis strains to grow indoors?
The general rule for growing cannabis indoors, especially if you plan to grow them in a small grow box, is to grow autoflower cannabis plants. This doesn't mean you can't grow perfectly feminized cannabis plants, but it only means that this is a simpler solution that will result in smaller plants, faster growth, and less care for the grower.
If you decide to opt for a feminized cannabis plant for indoor cultivation, consider factors such as the duration of the growth cycle, the size of a mature plant, and potential indoor yields. This way, you can choose the most suitable plant for indoor growing.
What are the best cannabis strains to grow outdoors?
This depends on the climate you live in, the plant's placement (how much sunlight and other weather conditions the plant receives), and your general needs. If you plan to grow a large plant, time is not a factor, you live in a warm climate, and you will take good care of the marijuana plant, choose a feminized marijuana plant that yields the desired effects.
Additionally, if you choose to grow feminized cannabis outdoors, you can maximize potential yields if you live in a warm climate. You can expect a healthy and large plant that will make you and your friends very happy.
If you live in a more northern climate and the warm period of the year is short (cannabis plants prefer a temperature of 20-30°C during their growth period), you could consider growing an autoflowering plant or placing your feminized plant in a greenhouse. The right temperature/humidity during different periods of the growth cycle is important for any cannabis plant if you want to ensure the plant grows quickly and to maximize yield potential.
Do you need to fertilize the cannabis plants?
This depends on the growing medium (soil) and the results you plan to achieve with your cannabis plant. It is important that your cannabis plants have sufficient nutrients at the most important moments of their growth cycle (especially the vegetative period).
To keep it short, in general, you can grow a cannabis plant without any fertilization, but if you want your cannabis to thrive and produce the best buds, you need to ensure it has enough of the right type of nutrients.
How big do weed plants get?
This depends on the strain you choose, the growing method, and… well, how big you let your cannabis plants grow (especially if you’re growing indoors). On average, cannabis plants can grow to be about 40 cm to 200 cm tall, but under ideal conditions, they can grow much larger if you want them to.
If you want a smaller plant, it's recommended to choose an autoflower. If you want larger yields, you need larger plants, and feminized plants are recommended.
What is germinating cannabis seeds?
Germinating cannabis seeds is the first step in every growing cycle, which means your plant will begin to grow from seed.
HOW DO WE GERMINATE CANNABIS SEEDS?
To germinate a cannabis seed, three key factors are needed: water, air, and warmth. Therefore, there are several ways to germinate your weed seeds, but here we will focus on the most commonly used methods.
Take a few sheets of paper and soak them in distilled water so they are completely wet, but not dripping. Place some soaked paper towels on a plate. Put your cannabis seeds on the paper towels, making sure the seeds are at least a couple of centimeters apart. Then, place more soaked paper towels on top of the seeds. Next, take another plate, flip it over, and place it on top of the first plate (creating a dome for the seeds). This will keep the seeds in a dark place. The final step is to ensure the temperature is around 20-30°C – the seeds will germinate even at lower temperatures, but at the correct temperature, this process will happen faster.
Just be patient and it should take a few days (up to 2 weeks in the worst case) for your seeds to germinate. You can check the paper towels from time to time, if they have become dry, add some more water.
You will know your seed has germinated when you see a small white sprout branching out from the seed, make sure this sprout is at least 2-3 mm long. After germination, it's time to plant your seeds and move on to the seedling stage.
WHY DIDN'T MY WEED SEEDS GERMINATE?
There can be several reasons why your cannabis seeds don't germinate well. Because seeds are part of nature, most growers agree that if about 1 in 4 seeds do not germinate, this can still be considered a good ratio (usually more seeds germinate than that).
The first and most important factor is, of course, cannabis seed genetics. If it's a high-quality seed that was harvested when ripe enough, it should germinate fine. Another factor could be how the seeds were stored after harvesting. Not only that, how long the seed has been stored can also lower the chances of the seed germinating.
But that's only because some or most of the seeds didn't germinate properly. This still doesn't mean they weren't high-quality seeds. The way you tried to germinate them plays the biggest role here. Remember that when germinating weed seeds, you need to create the most perfect conditions possible so that the seeds can germinate quickly enough to prevent them from rotting.
So if the temperature is warm enough, there's sufficient humidity, and enough time for the seeds to germinate (2-10 days is the average), most seeds should germinate perfectly.
What is the seedling stage of the cannabis plant?
After you have germinated and planted your seeds, a thin stem will appear. This small stem will grow very quickly and will serve as the main stem in the future. After some time, you will notice the first two leaves start to grow at the top of this small stem. These leaves are completely unique compared to other future leaves. These first two cannabis leaves are called cotyledon leaves and they indicate that your seedling is starting to photosynthesize. At this point, your cannabis plant is most vulnerable to diseases and other factors. Make sure your seedling has enough light to grow and protect it from harsh weather conditions.
The sowing phase of the growth cycle is over when your plant has developed around 4-8 leaves.
HOW BIG SHOULD THE CONTAINER OR POT BE FOR THE SEEDLING STAGE OF THE CANNABIS PLANT?
In general, the planting pot should be around 0.5-4 liters. This usually depends on the size of the seedling. For the entire growth cycle, a healthy rule of thumb is that the diameter of your pot rim should be about 3 times smaller than the height of your plant.
How do you care for your cannabis seedlings?
The first and most important thing you need to know when caring for your cannabis seedlings is… don't overwater them. We know we all want to grow beautiful, big buds as fast as possible, but overwatering cannabis plants is not the way to go about it. Overwatering is particularly dangerous during the seedling stage of the cannabis growth cycle, so make sure the pots you're using have drainage holes.
Don't be afraid to water your seedlings a lot, because most overwatering problems don't arise when you water them too much; most problems start when you water your seedlings too often. Let the soil dry out completely before watering your seedlings again.
If your seedlings are outdoors, it’s a good idea to protect them from harsh weather conditions with domes or similar coverings (just make sure not to block out sunlight). It’s also important to keep the humidity around 70% (if possible), and the average temperature should stay around 20–30°C (if possible). Also, make sure the seedlings have sufficient airflow and light during this stage.
What is the vegetative stage of a cannabis plant?
During the vegetative stage of any cannabis plant, the plant's actual growth reaches its full speed. At this point, your plant has already been transplanted into a large pot, and both the roots and leaves are developing rapidly. If you plan to top or train your plant, this is the moment to do it.
In principle, your cannabis plant will try to grow as much as possible during the vegetative phase. During the vegetative phase, you can give a little more water, and don't forget that the bigger your plant is, the bigger the roots. This means you need to water not only around the stem but also further outwards.
During the vegetative cannabis growth phase, your plant will cherish healthy amounts of nutrients, especially nitrogen. Your cannabis plant (if it's not an autoflowering one) will remain in the vegetative phase as long as it receives 12 hours of light. As soon as the plant receives less light, it will move on to the flowering phase.
WHEN CAN YOU DETERMINE THE SEX OF A CANNABIS PLANT?
You can determine the sex of your cannabis plant during the pre-flowering stage of its growth cycle. During this time, pollen sacs will form on male plants. It can be difficult to identify this with the naked eye, so try using a magnifying glass if you need to identify the sex as early as possible.
If you've planted feminized seeds, all your plants should turn out to be female, but knowing how to identify a male is a good skill to have, just in case.
What is the flowering stage of the cannabis plant?
The flowering stage of any cannabis plant is the final and most exciting stage of the cannabis growth cycle. Autoflowering cannabis strains automatically transition to this stage, and feminized plants begin to flower as soon as they receive less than 12 hours of light per day.
During this stage, your cannabis plants will begin developing buds, and this is what we've all been waiting for, right? Oh, and if you're growing from non-feminized cannabis seeds, you'll be able to easily determine the sex of your plants in this phase, so be sure to get rid of the males (so they don't pollinate female partners).
Stop pruning and let the plant relax, as you don't want your plant hormones to get out of balance. It can also be a good idea to give your plant some support (trellis), so it's easier for the plant to grow big buds. Lastly, start feeding your plant with blooming nutrients if you were planning to do so.
What are the trichomes of the cannabis plant?
Trichomes are small crystal-like “grains” that appear on cannabis buds when they are sufficiently mature. They can range in color from transparent to milky white, then to light yellow, or even orange, and will contain most of the THC.
Trichomes have 3 stages of development and can be characterized by their color:
- Clear or transparent – it's too early to harvest, there's almost no THC present.
- Cloudy or milky – harvesting plants at this stage has a more energetic but shorter effect.
- Amber trichomes - potency peaks and begins to decline during this period, but the more orange trichomes, the more calming effects you can expect.
So, you should harvest your cannabis plant when the trichomes are between the milky and amber phase, based on the high you want to achieve. If you want a more energetic high, harvest sooner. If you want a more couch-lock stoned effect, wait until the color is very rich.
When should you harvest your cannabis plant?
The best way to determine the perfect time to harvest your cannabis plant (especially if you're trying to maximize the THC level in your buds) is to observe the trichomes with a 30x-100x microscope.
The trichomes go from clear to opaque, then turn amber. During this stage, the trichomes reach their maximum THC content and begin to slowly break down due to exposure to oxygen and UV rays.
How to harvest your cannabis plant?
The simplest way is the whole plant method, meaning you just harvest and dry the entire plant.
A more time-consuming method is the ripe bud method, which means you will trim and dry the buds separately. This method is especially useful if the place where you dry your buds can hold some moisture. Because removing leaves before drying can be the best way to ensure no mold forms.
Removing the leaves is a good way to ensure your buds don't dry out too quickly. Also, try to minimize light exposure during harvesting and drying.
CANNABIS EFFECTS
What are the effects of marijuana/weed/cannabis?
Many people experience different effects from cannabis use, and there are also different known strains that have different general effects. But these are the most common short-term effects of cannabis:
- Euphoria
- Relaxation
- Increased or decreased sensory perception
- Vigilance
- Laugh
- Altered time perception
- Increased appetite
- Dry mouth
- Anxiety
- Paranoia
- Increased heart rate
- Poor coordination
- Pain/anxiety reduction
- Muscle relaxation
- Sense of well-being
- Restful sleep
If you read this list carefully, you might think: some points contradict each other… How is it that cannabis can simultaneously enhance some things and diminish others? Well, it doesn't. This just means that some people may feel more relaxed after using cannabis, while others may become paranoid from it. It depends on many personal factors and on the type and amount of cannabis used.
That's why it's always important to start slow and low, while learning how cannabis or a specific strain can personally affect you.
Can you get addicted to cannabis?
Yes. Just like with any substance or habit, you can become addicted to weed. This may seem contradictory to most addiction information found on the web, so let's clear up a few things before determining the actual possibility of cannabis addiction.
First, you need to understand that you can get addicted to almost anything; it doesn't even have to be a drug... You can get addicted to computer games, gambling, sugar, porn, tobacco, and almost any other behavior that you do on a repetitive basis. Habits (it doesn't matter if they are good or bad) form in the same way in our brains, and it can be very difficult to change them after something has become a real habit.
Let's discuss cannabis addiction or abuse now. When we think of physiological cannabis addiction, the answer is simple: it's almost impossible to have a severe physiological addiction to cannabis. With the average THC content in cannabis year after year, it's becoming easier to develop a physical addiction, but it's still not comparable to some other drugs.
But when we talk about cannabis use, it's not only easy to abuse cannabis, but cannabis can also have unpleasant long-term effects. Based on recent scientific research, we can say that heavy, long-term cannabis users generally have lower life satisfaction and a higher risk of addiction (not just to cannabis). Furthermore, longer-term “chronic” cannabis users also report much greater difficulty when it comes to employment.
In short, there is no such thing as a bad substance. There are only bad or good relationships we can have with those substances.
IS WEED A HALLUCINOGEN?
That depends on the type of cannabis we're talking about and what we're comparing it to. From a purely medical perspective, there are four different types of drugs: stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens, and opioids. Weed is definitely not an opioid. That being said, different strains of cannabis can exhibit different levels of stimulant, hallucinogenic, and depressant effects. Some classifications that involve 7 or more different types of drugs even give cannabis its own personal classification spot sometimes.
These are what the three main drug categories entail:
- Depressants – affect the activity of the brain and nervous system
- Stimulants – speed up brain and nervous system activity
- Hallucinogens – change your perception: the way you see, hear, taste, smell, or feel things changes.
This means that cannabis can have effects from all 3 categories.
Is cannabis a depressant?
Yes, cannabis can make you feel relaxed, calm, and less inhibited. It also means it slows down your coordination and concentration. This means your responsiveness to the environment and overall reaction time is slower under the influence of cannabis. Which, when you think about it, is precisely the expected effect of most Indica-dominant cannabis strains. Therefore, if you are looking for more hallucinogenic effects that cannabis can offer, you should look for a Sativa-dominant cannabis strain.
CANNABIS USE
What is the best way to smoke cannabis?
This is likely vaping. The idea stems from the fact that when vaporizing cannabis, you inhale vapor and do not smoke, so theoretically, most of the unhealthy substances do not reach your lungs. Also, when vaping cannabis, you don't add tobacco (as you do with joints or blunts to help cannabis burn), and you don't inhale propane from lighters or paper glue from the rolling papers you used.
With all this in mind, vaping cannabis is a very expensive investment, as a decent herbal vaporizer can cost you at least ~100 euros/dollars and better ones can easily cost a few hundred.
The second-best way to consume cannabis is probably a water pipe, also known as a bong. Especially if it's an ice bong (meaning there's ice in the bong to cool your smoke). This way, you're smoking cannabis again without added tobacco – which is better, but you inhale the actual smoke, and not everyone likes “the instant kick” that water pipes give you.
The simplest and most popular method of cannabis use is smoking a joint (or blunt). This involves grinding the weed with a grinder, mixing it with a little tobacco (this helps the joint burn better), and rolling it in special rolling paper (blunts are usually rolled with pure cannabis because the blunt itself is made of tobacco).
There are numerous ways to mix these basic principles to create unique smoking experiences. We're talking about using a gas mask to smoke weed, making a gravity bong, creating a pipe out of a soda can, or even just hotboxing. Feel free to look these methods up.
What are the etiquette rules for smoking weed?
Cannabis culture can differ from country to country and region to region, but there are some cannabis etiquette rules that most cannabis enthusiasts swear by. Most of these rules apply when you're smoking in a circle, meaning the group is larger than 2 people.
CANNABIS RULE #1 – PUFF PUFF PASS
This rule allows everyone in the circle to get a little high and not waste any weed. It's as simple as it sounds; you take two hits and pass it on. You don't take three or four hits, you just take two. And pass it on. This cannabis etiquette rule is based on a simple principle: equality.
CANNABIS RULE #2 – ALWAYS PASS IT TO THE PERSON ON YOUR LEFT, UNLESS...
If you've consumed the weed, then you pass the joint or bong to the person to your left. It's an old Rastafari tradition that asks everyone to pass the joint/blunt clockwise (to the left). There is one exception to this rule. We pass it to the left in peacetime. If there is war, we pass the joint/blunt counter-clockwise (to the right).
CANNABIS RULE #3 – WHOEVER ROLLS THE JOINT LIGHTS IT
Never ask the person who rolled the joint/blunt if you can light it. Even if the weed was originally yours, it's still customary for the person who rolled it to light it.
CANNABIS RULE #4 – PART
If a group chill session is planned in advance, it's polite to bring some weed. Weed can get expensive, especially if you have to make sure multiple people get high. Don't be stingy, and if you can't bring your own weed, then be grateful to those who did.
CANNABIS RULE 5 – NEVER PUSH ANYONE
Never try to force weed on people; it's polite to offer others some, but never be pushy. Weed doesn't affect everyone the same way, and if someone refuses, you must respect their choice.
These are the most common and important rules, but there are other things you should adhere to when smoking weed with others:
- Don't talk with a burning joint/blunt: everyone hates that, take your hits, pass it on, and then finish your story.
- Admit it if you don't know how to roll a joint: nobody wants to smoke a joint that falls apart.
- Don't blow smoke in anyone's face. That's very rude.
- Take good care of other people's tools: be very careful with water pipes, grinders, and other smoking tools that belong to other people, you never know how expensive or valuable they are.
- Provide munchies: if you're hosting a smoke-out, make sure to have plenty of drinks and food. If you're invited to a smoke-out, bring enough snacks for everyone. People who are high tend to eat crazy amounts, so it's everyone's responsibility to make sure there's enough for all.
- Inform others in your circle if you are sick. It's normal to want to feel better by getting high when you're sick, but nobody wants to catch the flu. So let everyone know in advance...
- Throw away stems and seeds: not only is finding large stems and seeds in your buds usually a sign of low-quality weed, but never add them to your joints either… they offer no effect and lead to a lower smoking experience.
- Be kind and supportive: enjoy the experience and try to give people space if they ask for it, we all get high differently and in a group setting everyone involved is responsible for the overall comfort of others.
How do you help someone who has become too high?
Simple steps if you or your friend have smoked (or eaten) too much cannabis are as follows:
- Hydrate (drink as much water as you can)
- Take a lot of sugar (this is especially useful if someone loses consciousness)
- Movement
- Take a shower (it will help you relax and will significantly reduce the side effects)
- Take it easy (try to understand that this state is temporary and will end soon)
- Relax or distract yourself (try to stay in bed or do something you love)
What is a grinder?
The cannabis grinder, herb grinder, or just grinder, is a special tool used to grind your weed buds into a more ready-to-consume form. This is done so that your cannabis burns more evenly and it is easier to smoke it in both a joint and/or with a bong.
They come in various shapes, sizes, complexities, and more. They can be electric, but in most cases, they are simply mechanical metal/wood/plastic grinders that most cannabis enthusiasts use in their daily lives.
Manual cannabis grinders are usually segmented by the number of compartments they have (single compartment, double compartment, or triple compartment). Most 2-3-stage (compartment) grinders have a secondary function compared to the more basic single compartment grinders that lack a mesh screen: they can collect trichomes (also known as kief) in the bottom compartment of your grinder.
What is cannabis kief?
Kief, also sometimes called cannabis crystals or cannabis powder, is a concentrated powder of cannabis trichomes that, in most cases, contains much more THC than the cannabis buds you smoke (by weight).
The best way to collect kief is with a multi-chamber grinder that has a special screen-protected compartment allowing only the smallest particles of cannabis powder to accumulate over time. Through continuous use of this grinder, you will eventually accumulate enough kief to use.
Experienced cannabis enthusiasts have multiple uses for this THC-rich cannabis substance, and the most common is usually saving kief for a rainy day when you want to get super high. Be careful if you're new to kief, especially if you're sensitive to cannabis: kief is typically a very concentrated form of cannabis, and it can have an unexpected effect, especially if it's been collected from multiple different strains.
Can you grow marijuana at home?
Yes, you can grow weed at home (both indoors and outdoors). Growing indoors and growing cannabis outdoors comes with a very different set of challenges. It therefore differs enormously from growing indoors.
IS WEED LEGAL?
Every country has its own unique laws and political views when it comes to growing, possessing, and potentially buying/selling cannabis. The good news is that countries around the world are becoming more flexible each year. So there is hope that we will soon live in a legalized cannabis world.
ABOUT WIETZADEN
ARE CANNABIS SEEDS LEGAL?
All cannabis seeds you can find in the Smartific webshop are legal in the Netherlands, where they originate. You must inform yourself and take full personal responsibility regarding the local laws of the country you live in.
Can you buy weed seeds?
Yes, you can many weed seeds Find in our Seedshop.
How long can you store weed seeds?
After they are harvested, cannabis seeds must be germinated (used) within approximately 16 months. During this period, they will retain all their best qualities and can be trusted to grow into a healthy cannabis plant. Also, make sure to store your cannabis seeds in a dry and dark place.
If you don't plan on germinating your cannabis seeds within the next year after purchase, we recommend considering freezing your cannabis seeds. Make sure to pack them without air or moisture and simply store them in the freezer. This way, you'll slow down the biochemical processes and can preserve your seeds for up to 5 years.
WILL ALL CANNABIS SEEDS GERMINATE?
No. Cannabis seeds are a product of nature, so it’s normal for not all of them to germinate properly. In most cases, the actual rate is much lower than that—but it’s safe to assume that up to ~25% of your seeds won’t germinate. You can always do a simple sink test to determine which seeds have the most potential.
How do you know if cannabis seeds are of good quality?
The quality of cannabis seeds depends on several factors, the most important of which are:
- Genetics
- Age
- Storage
- Total radiance
Based on these factors, you can determine the overall quality of the cannabis seeds.
What is the difference between autoflowering and feminized cannabis seeds?
Let's start with what feminized cannabis seeds mean: it means that the seeds will only grow into female cannabis plants. This is important because cannabis buds, which we love, can only be produced by female cannabis plants.
To understand what autoflowering cannabis seeds are, we first need to understand how cannabis flowering works. Most cannabis strains have a vegetative stage where the plant will only grow, without trying to produce buds (the “fruit” of the plant). This stage usually ends when the cannabis plant receives less than 12 hours of daylight. After this happens, the feminized cannabis plant stops growing and enters the flowering period, during which it will produce the buds we all like to smoke.
Because not all climates (and conditions) can provide enough sunlight for cannabis plants to have a satisfactory growing period, growers have bred autoflowering strains that bloom automatically, regardless of how much light the plants receive.
This results in easier-to-grow cannabis plants that require less attention and can be grown better in harsher weather conditions. Of course, nothing in nature is free, which is why autoflowering weed plants are usually smaller, faster, and yield less. This makes them perfect if you plan to grow them indoors in a grow box, if you are very inexperienced, or if you plan to grow your plants in a colder northern climate.
WHAT IS THE BEST CANNABIS STRAIN?
This is a very difficult question to answer, as it depends solely on your personal preferences. Some people like lighter cannabis strains with equal CBD/THC levels, while others are looking for the strongest THC kick possible. Some are looking for a way to relax after work (Indica), others are looking for a way to stimulate their creativity (Sativa). Some require complex medicinal cannabis products to help them with their conditions (CBD), while others use cannabis on a purely recreational basis.
Moreover, we react in very different ways to different compounds and combined combinations. That being said, this question has no answer and it is best to try, evaluate, and choose the types that work best for you.
