Kanna powder is ground Sceletium tortuosum, a succulent plant native to the arid regions of southern Africa. The package contains 5 grams. Origin and Background

Sceletium tortuosum grows in the arid regions of South Africa. For centuries, the Khoekhoe and San chewed fermented or dried plant material while traveling, at gatherings, and during moments of rest. Dutch observers later referred to this chewing mass as “kougoed.” European descriptions became more numerous in the nineteenth century, but the practice is much older.

The plant was known for its mood-enhancing effects, its ability to quench thirst, and the sense of calm and sociability it induced. Today’s ground herb is a simple, modern form of the same plant species.

Ingredients

Only Sceletium tortuosum, the South African succulent traditionally known as kanna. The 5-gram package contains the dried herb in powder form and nothing else: no fillers, no flavorings, and no added extracts. The aroma and potency may vary slightly from harvest to harvest, so start with a modest first cup.
