What is the EZ-test for LSD?
This compact and user-friendly test kit is designed to detect the presence of LSD and other indole compounds, such as DMT, 5-MeO-DMT, psilocybin, and psilocin. Each kit contains a glass vial with a chemical reagent embedded in silica gel. When a small sample (such as a piece of blotter or a crystal) is added, a visible color change occurs. A purple tint typically indicates the presence of indoles such as LSD. The test is ideal for home use or at events, requires no special equipment, and is a practical harm-reduction tool that helps people make safer choices.
History of the Test
The origins of the EZ-test for LSD lie in Albert Hofmann’s discovery of LSD in 1943. In the decades that followed, a black market emerged with many impure products. Starting in the 1960s and 1970s, the first field tests were developed, later refined using Ehrlich’s reagent (originally developed in the 19th century for medical purposes). Around the early 2000s, EZ-Test introduced user-friendly ampoule systems for indoles. Over the years, the test has been further improved with more stable reagents and clear color charts, in response to the emergence of new synthetic substances.
How do you use the EZ-test for LSD?
- Prepare a small sample (for example, a piece of blotter or a crystal).
- Carefully break open the glass ampoule (without using force).
- Place the sample in the vial, close it with the plastic cap, and shake gently.
- Wait up to three minutes and compare the color change with the included color chart (purple = indoles such as LSD; no color = absent).
Dispose of the vial and the sample safely after use. Store unused tests in a cool, dry place. With blotting paper, the color reaction may be more subtle due to lower concentrations. Please note: This is a preliminary test and is not a substitute for laboratory testing.
Composition
The kit contains a specialized chemical reagent (a modified Ehrlich formula containing, among other ingredients, p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde in an acidic solution), embedded in inert silica gel and packaged in a single-use glass ampoule. It also includes a plastic cap and a color chart. The components are designed to provide a reliable, preliminary indication without the need for additional equipment.
Warning
Dispose of the vial and the tested sample safely. Avoid direct contact with the reagent and keep the test out of the reach of children. Not suitable for minors. The EZ-test provides only an indication and is not a 100% guarantee. If in doubt, always have the sample tested by a professional. Do not use force when opening the vial.
